Parents are usually the first line of defense against substance abuse.

Know the signs of possible alcohol or other drug abuse. Look for:

· Deteriorating relationships with family & old friends

· Behavior changes such as withdrawal or hostility

· Drop in grades at school

· Loss of interest in sports or other favorite activities

· Basic personality changes – moods, apathy

· Memory problems

· Fatigue or hyperactivity

· Sleep disturbances

· Disappearance of money or valuables

· Use of incense

· Use of cigarettes
